Persistent Genital Arousal Disorder / Restless Genital Syndrome
Imagine being aroused at odd times of the day- when you are driving , walking or even sleeping .And this arousal makes your thoughts foggy and you cannot concentrate during your day to day activities. Also imagine this happening 30-40 times a day which is unrelieved even by having an orgasm. This really distressing condition is called PGAD.
Unlike psychological issues which are usually associated with sexual abuse , PGAD (Persistent Genital Arousal Disorder) is neuromuscular in nature. Women suffering from this condition often complain of being highly distressed , embarrassed and suicidal .This condition involves the neuro-pelviology and unfortunately the science is not yet very strong. It requires a multidisciplinary approach and requires a constant follow-up from the patients. These conditions are classified as chronic pelvic pain disorders and not sexual abnormalities or anomalies.
Main challenge in trying to treat this condition is that practitioners who work in the pelvis have had no training in chronic pain, and the pain management doctors have very little knowledge of the pelvic region.
All these patients have a hypersensitive deep pelvic nerves and they fire out impulses with little or no stimulation. This nerve impulse imitate very similar signals that occur with healthy and normal arousal and orgasmic response when it is wanted sexually.
A condition usually associated with PGAD is the Tarlov Cyst which can be diagnosed by a CT scan .
Our team of doctors with gynecologists , physiotherapists, psychologists and neurologists will work on finding the flareup signals and initiate treatment accordingly .
If you are suffering from PGAD , get yourself diagnoses and treated early to avoid longterm detrimental effects on the quality of life.
